About The Foundation

Non-political. Non-profit. Rooted in Trincomalee.

A closer look at who we are, how we work, and the values that shape every distribution.

Who We Are

A community organisation built for the long term.

The Al-Hikma Charitable Foundation is a Sri Lankan–based humanitarian and community development organisation. It is a non-political and non-profit body working for the welfare of humanity, well known for community development and social welfare activity in the Trincomalee district on Sri Lanka's East coast.

We are registered with the Department of Social Services as a Volunteer Social Service Organisation (VSSO) under Act No. 31 of 1980 — a formal footing that lets us partner with international NGOs, local mosque committees and individual donors on projects ranging from emergency relief to long-term livelihood support.

How We Work

From identifying need to a finished, reported distribution.

Every project — whether it's a single water well or a season of food parcels — follows the same accountable process.

Assess

Field volunteers and mosque committees identify families and villages in genuine need.

Verify

Households are confirmed on the ground before any aid or funding is committed.

Deliver

Water, food, shelters or equipment are distributed directly, by hand, on site.

Report

Every distribution is logged and photographed, so donors can see exactly where help went.

Our Values

Six principles behind every programme.

Social Justice

Aid reaches people on the basis of need, not status — every family is treated with equal dignity.

Innovation

We adapt each programme — from wells to workshops — to the real conditions of the villages we serve.

Sustainability

Wells, shelters and livelihoods are built to keep serving a family long after the handover day.

Accountability & Transparency

Every distribution is logged, photographed and reported — donors can trace exactly where help went.

Team Building

Local volunteers, mosque committees and field officers work together on the ground in Trincomalee.

Gender & Cost-effectiveness

Programmes are designed to include women equally, and to stretch every rupee toward more families helped.
